Introduction Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a clinicopathologic spectrum of liver pathologies associated with excessive accumulation of fat in the liver. This spectrum is continuous but can be graded based on pathological features; in increasing severity, these are: bland steatosis,

  2024-04-09

The decreased βAR-mediated response has been attributed to different mechanisms, including an attenuation of PKA activation, an impaired generation of cyclic AMP, a reduced receptor density, and a less efficient coupling to adenylyl-cyclase [10]. However, currently there is no single molecular or ce

  2024-04-09

Some alterations in the integrity of cell membranes caused by toxic agents can be determined by measuring certain enzymes released by damaged cells [8]. The cholinesterases, for example, catalyze the hydrolysis of 5-BrdU (ACh) in choline and acetic acid. Theses enzymes are divided into two types: t

Serum soluble sCD21 is a shedding product from the ectodomain of membrane CD21 after B cell activation (Masilamani et al., 2003, Masilamani et al., 2004a, Masilamani et al., 2004b, Grottenthaler et al., 2006, Hoefer et al., 2008), which resembles the ligand-binding capacity of intact CD21 (Wu et al.

Given that there are 132 substitutions between βAnc and the human β subunit, we wondered whether βAnc could replace the human β subunit in hybrid AChRs formed from ancestral and human subunits. We first confirmed that the β subunit is required for expression of human AChRs in HEK293 am580 by co-tra

5-LOX in pancreatic cancer 5-LOX is a key player in pancreatic cancer (PC) progression. The upregulation of 5-LOX mRNA has been observed in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and also in neoplastic pancreatic tissues (Kennedy et al., 2003). Higher levels of 5-LOX transcripts (messengers) are presen

Crystal structure ACLY protein is a homotetramer of four identical subunits [9]. Each polypeptide chain contains 1101 amino-acid residues [10]. The crystal structure of full-length ACLY protein is yet unresolved. However, Sun et al. recently succeeded in crystallizing chymotrypsin-truncated human

  2024-04-09

ARG I is one of the most important mammalian enzymes responsible for nitrogen metabolism since it comprises the main route for the elimination of excess nitrogen resulting from amino Methotrexate and nucleotide metabolism [18]. ARG I deficiency leads to hyperargininemia, characterized by progressiv

We have shown that an extensive region in SERBP1 (amino acids 354 to 474, using co-ordinates based on the full-length isoform, Figs. 1a and 2) is necessary for it to interact with RACK1; since this region has substantial homology to the corresponding region of HABP1 (Fig. 3) it is a reasonable hypot
