Recently, biosensors based on enzyme-mimicking organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterials such as protein or DNA-Cu nanoflowers (Batule et al., 2015, Park et al., 2017), Fe-aminoclay (Lee et al., 2013), and MOFs (Ai et al., 2013, Dong et al., 2015, Feng et al., 2012, Liu et al., 2013, Qin et al., 2013,

  2024-03-21

However, for a molecular target to be useful in AD, it must rescue behavioral as well as biochemical insults. In humans, AD memory impairments typically declare themselves initially as disruption of episodic memory and consolidation of new memories, eventually progressing to global cognitive decline

The gene SRD5A2 encodes the 5-α-reductase enzyme, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. Although dihydrotestosterone levels are considerably lower than testosterone, dihydrotestosterone has a five-fold stronger binding capacity to the androgen receptor and, thereby, a considerably mo

AXL is a member of the TAM (Tyro3, Axl, Mer) family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) [4]. Elevated AXL expression could promote oncogenic processes such as cell growth, migration, invasion, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which substantially contribute to tumor progression and poo

Despite the growing knowledge surrounding the link between ATX and cholestatic pruritus in PBC, it remains unclear if the role of the ATX-LPA signaling axis includes lymphocytes homing in the liver of PBC, and if the resulting inflammation is associated with PBC pruritus (Fig. 3). PBC is characteriz

  2024-03-21

In plants, altered expression of Aurora kinases results in impaired meiotic divisions followed by the formation of aneuploid or polyploid progenies [21]. This observation is interesting from an evolutionary point of view because it can be assumed that, during evolution, the influence of biotic and a

  2024-03-21

The overall mechanism of the Cdc48 complex resembles that of the 19S regulatory subunit of the proteasome, which also uses receptor proteins to bind polyubiquitin chains attached to a substrate and employs a translocation mechanism (for review, see Kish-Trier and Hill, 2013). As with Cdc48, full sub

  2024-03-21

Phagosomes acquire some hydrolases early during their journey from the cell surface to lysosomes. An example for such hydrolase is cathepsin H which is most concentrated in the early phagosome at a pH of approximately 6.3 (Claus et al., 1998), the pH optimum of enzyme activity (Schwartz and Barrett,

  2024-03-21

The role of 12/15-LOX plays in autophagy Autophagy is a process by which cellular material is delivered to lysosomal to degrade the damaged organelles and proteins to facilitate nutrient recycling (Towers and Thorburn, 2016). There has been characterized three types of autophagy-macroautophagy, m

• Telomerase action at the telomere

  2024-03-21

Telomerase action at the telomere is highly regulated; it preferentially elongates the shortest telomeres, and recruitment of the enzyme complex to the telomere occurs in mid-S phase of the cell cycle (Bianchi and Shore, 2007, Britt-Compton et al., 2009, Teixeira et al., 2004, Hemann et al., 2001, T

In this review, we will present the traditional and actual strategies to study orphan receptors and identify their ligands. An extensive description of the orphan GPCR field has been published in 2013 by Davenport et al. [22]. Therefore, we will focus on the deorphanizations that were reported since

Apelin Discovered in 1998, apelin was initially identified as the sole endogenous ligand for the APJ receptor (Tatemoto et al., 1998). Apelin-77 (pre-pro-apelin) is the precursor for various pharmacologically active apelin isoforms (e.g. apelin-12, -13, -17 and 36), and it shares 75–95% sequence
