Moreover, mice exposed to high-cholesterol diet have mildly activated astrocytes, increased expression of ApoE and aquaporin-4 in the hippocampus, and altered levels of proteins associated with Aβ metabolism (Chen et al., 2016), which is related to a higher demand for cholesterol transport and the n

Tropomyosin-related kinases (Trks) play crucial role in neurotrophin-mediated cellular activities, including neuronal differentiation, survival, and synaptic function [37] through activating downstream signaling mediators PI3K and Akt [38]. In a therapeutic context, Akt has been shown to mediate str

ABCA2 and cancer drug response Overall, the expression of ABC transporters has been linked with multidrug resistance phenotypes through the efflux of drugs via ATP-dependent transport. For example, 13 distinct transporters (ABCA2, ABCB1, ABCB4, ABCB11, ABCC1–6 ABCC10, ABCC11 and ABCG2) have been

A weakness of our technique is that during the early post-operative period without the scaffold of an enteric channel patients can be at risk for traumatic or difficult catheterization, with 3 of 6 requiring a visit. This appeared to be offset by having skilled and educated housestaff capable of rec

Glucose permeability studies demonstrated a high glucose flux through the SF films used in the present work. Recent diffusion studies, including small molecular drugs and oxygen permeation through SF membranes [32], further support the quality of SF and its possible application as a material for bio

As an alternative to chronic receptor blockade, we have been targeting adenosine kinase (ADK) – an astrocyte-based enzyme that catalyses the phosphorylation of adenosine, as a means to modify Myriocin adenosinergic signalling (Boison, 2006, Etherington et al., 2009). Up-regulating ADK facilitates t

MicroRNA (miRNA) is an abundant group of small (22-nucleotide) noncoding RNA molecules that directly binds with 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) to regulate gene expression, playing an important role in variety of biological processes including cell proliferation, apopto
