We have previously shown that the antinociceptive effect of tramadol, an analgesic that, like paracetamol is able to increase serotonin levels within CNS, is potentiated or antagonized respectively by a 5-HT1A/B nonspecific PKA inhibitor fragment (6-22) amide blockade or activation (Rojas-Corrales

Suspecting that ACL might regulate the expression or activity of myogenic transcription factors, Das knocked down MyoD and found that such intervention abolished the effect of ACL on fast MyHC expression and that, conversely, MyoD overexpression partially rescued reduced fast MyHC expression caused

We conclude that Tetrapleura tetraptera fruits extract possess antiplasmodial activity and the results of this study justifies and confirms the traditional usage of this plant as malarial remedy. Acknowledgement Introduction The phylum apicomplexa comprises of nearly 5000 species, most of whi

Future directions-outlook Peptide-based macrocycles are among the privileged scaffolds in antibiotic drug discovery. Many compounds were discovered by natural product screening and developed unchanged, or as semi-synthetic derivatizations. Since the golden age of antibiotic discovery (1940s-mid 1

  2023-08-28

The SMN1 and SMN2 promoters are regulated by transcription factors such as E26 transformation-specific domain containing protein (ELK-1) and cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) 58, 59. Compared with WT animals, mice with SMA exhibit increased and decreased ELK-1 and CREB phosphorylation, re

  2023-08-28

In this study, high concentrations (0.5–4 mM) of thuringiensin were required to stimulate the basal adenylate cyclase activity Fig. 2, Fig. 3, Fig. 4, but low concentrations of thuringiensin (1–100 μM) were sufficient to inhibit the forskolin-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity in rat cerebral cor

To assess relative metabolic activity and proliferation of Nintedanib attached to various substrates we used the MTT assay [29], [30]. In order to compare the metabolic activity of cells under the various conditions irrespective of the number or viability of the cells, we performed a PicoGreen DNA

In the past few years, several experimental findings have demonstrated a pivotal involvement of adenosine also in driving the phenotypic switch of macrophages. In particular, the stimulation of A2A and A2B receptors seems to play a critical role in switching macrophages from M1 to M2 phenotype [37,6

Additional evidence for a putative role of COXs and 5-LOX in AD derives from pharmacological studies using inhibitors of these enzymes (for review, see Firuzi and Praticò, 2006). In addition to helping delineate the pathobiological mechanisms of AD, these results raise hope for discovering novel the

Concluding remarks Autophagy ensures cell homeostasis and survival through the continuous degradation/recycling of intracellular components. It can also represent a conserved, cell-intrinsic, defense mechanism against invading pathogens, including viruses. The autophagy process can be activated r

  2023-08-26

Many reports have well documented that signaling pathways play a pivotal role in controlling longevity. The most studied of these pathways is the IGF-1 pathway [11,12]. A disruption of this pathway has been found to extend longevity in different groups of species starting from Caenorhabditis elegans

In response to DSB, the lesion recognition factor Mre11-Rad50-Nbs1 (MRN) complex helps the recruitment of ATM to the damage site and its activation by phosphorylation [29]. However, whether UV-damage recognition factors directly influence ATR and ATM recruitment and their phosphorylation is not clea

There are however, concerns of potential side-effects that should also be taken into account.
